Proposed Course Outline in Stylistics

Course Description:

            This course offers an introduction to the study of language in literature. It is intended for the third year Education students specializing in English. This is offered every second semester of the school year. The course consists of ten topics which are divided into two parts. The first part will cover the midterm and the second part will cover the final term.

General Objectives:
This course focuses on the stylistic analysis of literary texts which aims to:
z  Introduce the students on the key concepts in stylistics;
z  Show how language and literature worked together;
z  Explore the use of language in literary texts (poem, short stories, drama);
z  Apply stylistics in analyzing a literary texts; and
z  Appreciate how language functions in literature.
